Haldi

On 6th in the morning the haldi rasam began. The haldi paste is made up by grinding the turmeric into powder, barley and mustard oil. In this rasam the sister of the groom have to apply haldi first to the groom so my cousin sister Neelam first applied haldi. Then both my bhabhi and me applied haldi and massaged. It was lot of fun.

On 5th the day when all rasam bagan. It started with Matmangra. In this a long bamboo stick(maad) is fixed in the courtyard(aangan) of the house. All the neighbouring women came to my aunt's house. The maad had already been fixed in the aangan. Then any 5 men had come and held the bamboo and then a lady who is specialist in these thing known as Nauan had pat her hand on their back with haldi. As this was going on all the women were singing and playing dholak. A earthen pot was also placed right next to the maad filled with rice with a lid and on top a diya was kept which has to be lit till the wedding takes place. A small pooja was done and then all women went to dig mud to make a small chula in which Urad dal is to be grinded and boiled next day. In the end groom(cousin) comes and on his right hand kangan was tied I.e in a yellow cloth a supari is placed and a knot is tied and the pandit tied it to the groom which signifies that all the rasam can be started with the groom.
